Botany

Gabon, with nearly 85% of its territory covered by forest and home to over 5,000 known plant species, is a major biodiversity hotspot in Central Africa. The Lastoursville region, a site of ancient migrations and a crossroads of peoples (Awandji, Bakota, Babongo, etc.), saw the establishment of villages whose traces still influence the structure and composition of forest ecosystems today.

These former villages can permanently alter vegetation and soils, raising the question of the impact of human activities on biodiversity. In this context, this study aims to characterize the flora and vegetation of a former inhabited site around Doumé (Mabouli) and a reference site (Moukanissi). It is part of an effort to better understand the impact of past human pressures on species diversity and forest dynamics.
